I would like to make this more professional, but now is simply not the time. Things are moving to quick to worry about perfect journalism, please understand. I will also be updating this post at least twice a day.

It is 11:00 p.m., Sunday, April 26, 2009. At this time 103 people have died with symptoms to Swine Flu and more than 2000 have been tested and or isolated for further study . The world bank has designated a $205 million dollar loan to Mexico, with $25 million to be released immediatly for medicine and diagnostics purposes. President Calderon has annouced by Wednesday, Mexico will count with specialized laboratories for domestic testing of samples which will lessen the time needed for diagnosis and treatment.

Public meetings, day cars, all schools from elementary to University, private and public have been cancelled until May 6, 2009. It may or may not be prolonged. Many public parks and pools have already been closed. It has not been made official, but would appear it will be by tomorrow that all political campaign activities for the July elections will be cancelled.

Sunday Mass was canceled in Mexico D.F. and surrounding states although the Church will remain open to individuals. Other states were allowed to have Mass, but advised there would be no traditional greetings ( kissing each cheek or handshakes) amongst eachother, communion wine, and the communion ostion wafer would be placed in each followers hand instead of the mouth. U.S. Embassies and Consulates have suspended labor and will not be releasing or receiving applications for any visas.

President Calderon has given a special decree authorization to S.s.a, Mexico's Department of Health ,which grants them entrance to any home or establishment in effort to prevent or combat Swine Flu. They have full power of isolating and/or restricting movements of those with symtoms of the flu.

Health officials are in bus stations and airports checking incoming and outcoming passengers for symptoms. If a passenger is found with symptoms, samples will be taken on site to be submitted for testing. Each person is to use a mouth cover.

Symptoms in Mexico are said to be:

- Lethargy, loss of appetite, cough, flem, dry throat, nasal secretion, headache and body ache, nausea, vomitting, diarreah: All symptoms may or may not include a fever of 101- 103.

-Lesser common initial symptoms are stomache pain and chest pain or heavy chest feeling which may or may not be accompanied by other symptoms in the initial phase.

Personal prevenative measures are:

- Cover mouth in public, avoid closed public areas: cinema, metro, bus, restaurants, etc.

- Drink fluids, eat foods with high Vitamin C and A content: Pineapple, papaya, carrots, lime, lemon, tomato, etc.

-Wash hands ofton with antibacterial soap and use antibacterial gel when in public after touching money, telephones, door knobs, etc.

- When sneezing or coughing for any reason, cover mouth and nose with tissue, dispose of tissue in tied plastic bag after use.

The use of surgical mouth covers is NOT used for simple air contagion. It is said the Swin Flu virus is 40 nanometers, very capable of passing thru a mask. Contagion is sai tobe passed by the aerosal type spraying caused by sneezing and coughing and then touching the hands and other people or items. If a mask is not available use whatever you can, just cover your mouth and nose.

Antivirals have been sold out, including over the counter medicines such as Theraflu. Pharmacies are announcing they will not be restocking as they are for exclusive use for the ill until further notice.

Medical students are being asked to volunteer and may be "drafted" into public service brigades to assist in detection and prevention.

I will continue updating.

The world organization of Animal Health has requested the virus name be changed from Swine Flu to North American Flu as it has not been confirmed to come direct from swine. It has also requested more investigation as to how the virus is spread or if it is direct result from swine to know if "biosecurity" and mass vaccines should be prepared for animals. Addition stated was it is most import as simple confirmation would inact a suspension of all swine products from affected areas which would greatly reduce further illness.

Has the Mexican media reported any verified (or verifiable) reasons for the deaths in Mexico City among young, healthy adults? For example, do we know whether they had obtained flu vaccinations in the past?

Also, there have been suggestions that this was an act of bioterrorism. The WHO said there is NO evidence of this.

The important thing now is to stay calm and prevent illness to ourselves, families, and others.

I agree, call me naive, but I don't see Mexico as being the primary target of a bio-terrorist attack. I've also heard people on the Vine arguing that this is a state sponsored thing to re-order the world. I think I'll keep my paranoia at excessive hand washing and a face mask.

      No problem:

I think everyone should know, if any other update or prevenative measure is announced in the U.S. or other part of the world, please post link here so we can all use the benefits.

It is crazy here. Last night I went out looking for Gabirol, an antiviral. It has been sold out across the country (along with everything else.) They will NOT be restocking to the public as all meds will now be held for hospital use for the ill.

Long lines were outside of 24 hour pharmacies looking for surgical masks and meds. Nothing is available, not even alcohol, Vitamin C and A, and antibacterial soaps and gel.

Hospital emergency rooms, clinics, med centers, etc are drowning. Hundreds of people are pushing there way into every facility there is to be tested and see if their headache, etc mean they are infected.

My oldest son who is a 3rd year med student has volunteered to brigade. He is now in a local doctor clinic and will begin door to door in the evening. It is not what my wife and I wanted, but, we understand. If the Doctors continue being flooded, it will be more difficult to tend to those who are ill.

I will be going to buy more food soon, not because I think the world is ending, but because of the panic that has been caused.

If you really want a mask, maybe look at the desechables stores. I am not sure how to say it in English, but it is usually small stores that sell take out boxes and styrphome/plastic plates, etc used in restaurants and snack stands. Many of them sell masks to keep to restaurants, etc for sanitarty reasons.

I have decided, after reading and listening more, not to run myself crazy looking for a mask. People are crazy now, anywhere that might sell them might have hundreds of people looking for the same. Hundreds of people who may or may not be sick, and hundreds of people who definitly don't have a mask.

The mask is to keep us from spreading OUR germs by sneezing or coughing, not to keep from getting someone elses. I think for personal safety surgical GLOVES would be more useful to keep me from touching something that may have been infected and then touching my mouth or face, etc.

I will use a handkerchief over my mouth and nose when I go out to buy food.

Restaurant supply store, maybe... Not sure if there is an actual word in English to be honest...(and I'm a native speaker, sad, huh?)

They gave my husband one at work, but if I go out I have some scarves I can put over my face.

I have enough food to get me through the end of the week when my husband gets paid...hopefully there will still be some food on the shelves then.

It mentioned in one article that people have died of sever pnemonia as a side effect of the flu. Hopefully if you have a strong immune system, and no existing respiratory problems your body will be better at fighting the illness. I wonder if perhaps that is why so many people in Mexico have succumbed to the illness. The air pollution is horrible, and from what I understand many people suffer from respiratory illness as a result.

      UPDATE

CIBOLO, TX -- Another case of swine flu has been confirmed in Texas -- the third in the state and 41st in the country.

Texas Department of State Health Services spokesman Doug McBride said Monday that a third student at a school near San Antonio has swine flu. The 18-year-old male remains in voluntary isolation at his home and is recovering.

McBride said the swine flu confirmation came from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention laboratory.

All three cases involve students at a high school in Cibolo in Guadalupe County near San Antonio.

The first two were 16-year-old boys who were friends. McBride said both remain in voluntary isolation and have recovered.

It is not known how the three contracted swine flu. They have not recently traveled to Mexico.

Pandemic warning increased from Phase 3 to Phase 4... It means a step toward pandemic, the situation is fluid, evolving, but not quite a pandemic yet.

Focus on mitigation efforts, rather than containing the virus. Containment is not a feasible operation

The director general recommends not restricting travel or closing boarders. Travellers should not do so if they are ill.

The production of seasonal influenza vaccine should continue, however WHO should also monitor and faciliate a vaccine against the new Swine influenza virus.

Yes. She's still staying to take care of a family member who is in a hospital, but she is not showing any symptoms due to the steps taken by hospitals (wearing masks, quarantining, ect...) Hopefully she won't have any trouble getting on a plane in a week or two.

She shouldn't there are no plans to close the borders, and the WHO is advising against it. It is largely pointless to try to contain the virus at this time since it so wide spread. I think as long as she stays healthy, whe will make it home without a problem. There is a US consulate in GDL, if she has any concerns, I'm sure she can contact them.

You can look for all updates for American Citizan Services by going to the U.S. embassey in Mexico page or any U.S. consul, such as U.S. consulate in Guadalajara page. Mywife recieved a message in her email from the U.S. consulate Warden with updates and websites to check for updates.

But like Mego said, she should be fine. She just need take precaution . Airlines are checking all incoming and outgoing passengers for symptoms.

By the way Sgt. Pepper, I think by holding an American passport, she can't technically be denied re-entry. I'll have to look that up to confirm it. That's another reason why I don't know how realistic closing the border is.

Mexico is Awakening, Thank you for the info and kindness. I've been blogging so much, I haven't turned on the TV but to watch my favorite show 24. If there are precautions or any airtime at all regarding AZ, I have not heard. Time to turn the TV back on as I interact outside the home 4/5 times a week and should be more aware for my own safety. Again, thank you.

      Thank you.

We all need to keep eachother update on new findings. My in-laws live in two different states in U.S. , neither have been affected so far, but my wife and I told them to buy surgical masks and antibacterial soaps and gels, Vitamin A and C, and lysol NOW, just in case it is needed later.

It will not costs much and if you don't need it, it won't waste. If the U.S. is like here, if you should need it and receive alert everything will sell within hours. Better buy now.

Thanks for the reports. Masks don't help with this one; it goes through them, apparently. The contagion extends from a day before symptoms occur until 7 days afterward. I plan to stay home if I feel ill, and avoid spreading it around.

Mask won't keep us from getting sick, but will help us from getting OTHERS ill. If you have not bought basic supply, buy them, just in case. Not to cause a panic, but it never hurts to have antibacterial gels, soaps, lysol, etc on hand. they won't waste.

      Mego:

My wife just went out to get extra medicines for her and our daughters allergies to have on hand in hopes of avoiding any type of allergy invoke asthma or bronchitis.

My wife also uses many homeopathic medicines for her and the kids. (She became a fan when our then 11 year old son was hospitalized for a kidney stone. After having a T.A.C. , or a C.A.T. test the doctors and urologist said there was no way but operate. The recomended surgery because of the size, severity, and pain was to cut our son from belly button to spine. My wife asked if there were other treatment or medicine to help shrink the stones, when she was told they would not work, she refused to sign admittance papers and took our sick child from the hospital to search for more opinion.

Our local doctor was happy and said in NO WAY should she have allow such a serious surgery. He told her about homeopathic meds "tinta de madre Yumal", which cost $30 pesos. After 6 hours of taking, our son no longer needed sublingual pain pills, after 14 hours he passed the stones with no pain.

Anyway, she went to the homepathic store where she was given prevenative flu chochas . I don't know how to say chocas, but they are small sugar like pills which homepathic doctors use to soak the medicines in, you put them under your tongue and they disolve. The chocas are not for curing flu, but are to help with immune as a prevention means. She bought 5, one for each of us. They costs $40 m.n. each.

Look for a DR. MONFORT in Ags or any other homeopathic store.

Also: She did say the hankerchif is kind of bothersome (although she still used in stores) and can see how it would be even more hard for kids/young to use. The lady in the homeopathic store (who know my wife very well) gifted her with masks for each one of us. The lady made them herself. The material look like those blue papertowel that you find in grocey stores. The ones that don't rip and you can reuse. also buy lysol so you can disinfict your mask after use, if not put it in a small pillowcase or other and put it in the dryer for a few minutes.

All museums in the nation have been closed.

Hidalgo has confirmed 13 people infected throughout the state.

      Update: 4:38 p.m., Tuesday, 28 de Abri 2009

WHO may raise virus to level 5

      Mexico, D.F.

      Correction:
Restaurants in Mexico D.F. may still operate, but ONLY for take out:
Establishments that do not abide, will be shut down completely.

Mexico D.F. has a created an intital fund of $150 million m.n. to lend financial support to the ill, families and small businesses affected.

3 new deaths have been reported in Mexico, D.F., 31 new patients have been admitted to hospitals, and 14 patients have been discharged after being successfully treated for virus.

89 people still remain hospitalized with the virus confirmed in D.F..

The Deparrtment of Health will be constantly monitoring families of the deceased and infected.

      San Luis Potosi:

      12 deaths confirmed:

The state has began chemically sanitizing parks, plazas, malls, airport, police stations, markets and all med centers, clinic s, hospitals, and public areas in efforts to disinfect. It will also include all public telephones, bank ATM, and more. The campaign will continue indefinitly.

      Nuevo Leon:
      18 ill:
      12 confirmed and hspitalized.
6 unconfirmed and restricted to home by S.s.a until exam results

      Update on Symptoms and incubation:
Original reports stated one of the symptoms was a cough with flem
New reports state: Dry cough: flem or feeling of flem may be felt in chest, but cough is DRY.

Incubation is still not completely known: The peak of the virus seems to be 1-7 days with symptoms presented by the 4th day.

      Additional prevention:
Drink 50 % more fluids than normal
      Do not take aspirin

      U.S.-Mexico Border:
Borders ARE open, but officials are inspecting all who cross. Persons with flu symptoms will be sent directly to Health Department for further testing.

Note: It is still being debated, but studies seem to point that the typical Influenza type A vaccine used worldwide, DOES offer some immunity to the Swine virus. It will not protect completely, but seems to minimize symptoms
